Be still my beating retro heart!

As I was born in 1976, these stunning prints by German designer Graziela Preiser appeal to my love of things from that era.

Graziela Preiser's designs, in particular the relaunched ‘1,2,3 design’ are available on bedlinen and children’s night wear. So fabulous. Crisp, clean and colourful.

What I love about these iconic designs is the simplicity, innocence and fun. They are truly designed for kids but are so fabulous that adults can't help but love them too. They are also fabulous for boys and girls...no need to go overboard on the gender-specific nursery!

Available from the website and in the UK and Europe.  Hopefully these designs will be available down under soon. Otherwise the website does ship internationally. Hurrah!

No Slippy Hair Clippy

There are no pink babies in my home – only blue. I am a lone female living in an all-male environment. As such, my need for girl’s hair accessories is more than a little limited. However a recent discovery almost motivated me to consider ‘trying again’ for a baby girl – almost!

Created by the mother of a baby girl with beautifully fine hair, this adorable range of hand made hair accessories is designed specifically to overcome the dreaded ‘clip slip’. I can almost here a cheer rising from every mum who ever searched for a long-lost favorite hair clip!

Hand made in the USA, No Slippy Hair Clippy makes a gorgeous range of hair accessories for girls of every age. What makes them unique is that every clip features a magnet to achieve a tighter clasp, and velvet lining for softness and additional grip. So clever!

No Slippy Hair Clippy prides itself on unique designs and colour combinations, in styles that mirror current fashion trends. What I like most is the range’s diversity. There are flowers, bunnies, love hearts, cherries, snails, frogs, chicks and turtles that are crocheted, ceramic, beaded, embroidered, pillowed and sequined. And that is just the start.

A visit to www.hairclippy.com will uncover a user friendly website (you can shop by various categories, and even by colour!). Search for stockists or simply shop online. International shipping is available.

Doesn’t every girl need a No Slippy Hair Clippy??

Pigtail Pals, Wisconsin, USA.

As well as dressing up as a princess, ballerina and bumblebee girl (anyone remember the Blind Melon film clip for “No Rain”?), my three-year-old likes to play doctor and vet and informs me she is going to be a dentist when she grows up.

We like this in our house, as the chances of her doing a Mary Donaldson (a.k.a Princess Mary of Denmark) and marrying a crown prince are quite remote (and we wouldn’t want to giver her unrealistic expectations!).

One mum (or I should say “mom”) from Wisconsin is, in her words, “redefining girly” and produces t-shirts that inspire girls (and grown-up girls) to be smart, daring, and adventurous. The designs include a racing car driver with the slogan “I drive like a girl”, carpenter (“I broke a nail”) and even a special design for Breast Cancer research with a girl scientist saying, “I’m cooking something great”.

The brain-mum behind Pigtail Pals, Melissa Wardy, says the company “…tries to get away from the ubiquitous pink and purple princess-diva-drama queen trend…” and show girls that they may be bold, adventurous and heroic.

Melissa makes it clear that she is not anti-pink, princess or Disney, rather she is anti-LIMITATION and wants her daughter to be unafraid to be intelligent and reach for the stars (and literally, if she wants to be an astronaut!).

Pigtail Pals uses pre-shrunk 100% cotton tees that are sweatshop and child-labour free. International shipping is available.
